This interesting
travel offers us a colored view into the traditional way of life
of the native people of the Taurus Mountains. Through the narrow,
curved roads away the Great City of Side with slopes in flowers
and smelling stone pine forests we arrive in an idyllic mountain
village named Buyukalan. We sit down in the native coffeehouse and
drink Turkish tea with the former nomads, present farmers, and experience
the usual everyday life in a village. On our drive through Buyukalan
lands, our guide informs us about the life, traditions and customs
of the village people. In this travel we will see men and women
working in the fields, and meet women baking pita. In one of the
small villages we will also visit a small village mosque and be
informed much about the Islam in Turkey. After a typical and cozy
Turkish lunch in an old house in Buyukalan, and visit to the old
water mill in the village, we will silence and peace in the Taurus,
far from tourism. In the afternoon, following the visit to the old
graves and the cemetery of Buyukalan, our return trip to Side will
begin.
